Plan to split the scene where Nina and Isi interact into two scenes. The first only hints at some lack of agreement between them. Otherwise, Isi seems pleasant and agreeable and admiring of Nina's independent ways.
In the second scene, it becomes clear that they are not in agreement. That Isi plans to go one way, away from the community and traditional values, while Nina very much believes in the community and maybe traditional values too in some ways (though she is not in agreement with elders/signers of contracts with US gov to relocate, etc).

but to her, Nina, signing those contracts wouldn't be synonymous with traditional ways would they? despite that it is the elders who did the signing...it would just be a sign of ... weakness?? the damaging power of the gov't, etc? etc etc anyway i doubt disagreeing with this would be in conflict in her mind with her adherence to community and trad'l values...
or maybe - she feels that they were trying to do the right thing, what one would do with people who thought as they do, one with morals and a sense of a greater community...but signing was aqctually the wrong way to go bc these things are not the case...ppl like the General, etc ...i dunno, does Nina see them as inherently untrustworthy and destructive....the latter is key bc she would prob see them as destructive not only of her own community and people but of themselves as well...not sure what the example of this would be...but Jim would be the in-house example of how external influences cause some in the community to do harm to themselves...and Isi too I suppose.
